Practice

Practice should be done at least 5 times a week. There are NO exceptions to this rule. The quality and consistency of practice is THE MOST important factor in the student's development and progress. Any less practice results only in wasted time, talent and money.

Practice should be done during uninterrupted periods of time and as consistently as possible. Remember that 20 minutes of quality practice (quiet, concentrated and attentive) is worth far more than 40 minutes of half-hearted, sloppy practice. Very young students may find it easier to split practice time between two periods a day of 5-10 minutes each. If a student practices this way, please notify me for proper instruction in this method.

On each assigned song, I will make notations as to the number of times a day the song should be practiced, draw attention to technical items that should be addressed or corrected during practice and specify weak areas that need improvement. It is the student/parent's responsibility to make sure these items are followed and completed. The student's progress LARGELY depends upon the parent's involvement in following up the lesson instructions.
